ALERT! The sales tax in California is going up a whopping 1% on April 1st! Here in Santa Clara County that means it’s going to be 9.25%! That’s so close to 10% that I might as well join the Mormon Church (not really, I’m an atheist but that’s their suggested tithe)! If you have any big purchase items you are contemplating, I suggest you buy them this weekend. I’m thinking it’s time I take the plunge and buy that VW CC I’ve been contemplating. This is just disgusting! I mean come on! The economic climate sucks and the auto industry is in shambles but the Govinator thinks this is a good idea? Car dealerships are already having trouble moving merchandise and this is just going to grind sales to a halt! California, the most populous state with the most cars and most car sales is raising the sales tax a full 1% in the worst economic climate in my lifetime! This is just plain dumb! One of Arnold’s famous lines is “It’s not a tumor!”. Indeed! You are the tumor Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Anyone want to go on a shopping spree in Oregon? No? Here’s a little secret … NO SALES TAX!
I attended a SVWB event at Google the other night titled “Matrix of AJAX Revolutions: JQuery, DOJO, YUI, GWT, and MooTools“. It was a really great event (I met Douglas Crockford) but the main thing I came away with was not to use MooTools! Why? Their philosophy is to extend JavaScript by modifying the language itself. This is a very dangerous approach, in my opinion, and can seriously conflict with other libraries. This makes my decision to standardize on YUI all the more sound. The developers over at Yahoo have taken great pains to isolate their library from the rest of the language, as it should be!
I’m going to explore GWT and DOJO in more detail because they also impressed me. Not a big JQuery fan … naming their global object $ is cute but stupid.
